for Parents

This class is like no other in the sport

Tyro Mini and Tyro Junior Karting is not just the most economical form of racing at the forefront of our sport - it’s also one of the most exciting and competitive. It’s also more, much more. This class is like no other in the sport. Here at Tyro Karting, we race as one team, everyone working together to make a race weekend something to be enjoyed by all the family.

It’s not only economical for the relatively low cost of a Tyro Mini or Tyro Junior kart, but for the low cost of competing through the racing season. Each Tyro racing kart is identical with no changes to their structure or engine components allowed. The result? It’s unusual in our sport, but this class is 100% based on the driver's performance. Tyro Racing is all about the driver.

Within Tyro Karting, we place as much emphasis on developing the child’s personality as we do in developing their racing techniques. One of the joys of Tyro is the way we can bring out their personality, to develop them as a person, and to develop their inter-personnel skills. The Tyro Karting experience doesn’t just involve the track, but really focuses on providing a truly enjoyable experience and socialising off-track.

Parents have fed back to us, saying their child has totally changed and, for some, that having a deep involvement with something like Tyro Karting has given them excitement about something they haven’t seen in the child before. We are not just a kart series, we are proud to be involved with helping children in the sport and in their life, no child is left out of the Tyro social life.

Don't worry if you don't know anything about karting, our help is always on hand at every one of our race meetings. We guide the drivers as well as their families, focusing on making every race weekend an enjoyable and exciting experience for all. Our team of experienced people, either ex-Tyro racers or ex-Tyro mechanics, are always available to provide you with support.

We can even help with getting the kart ready to go! If you do not have the time, space, or experience to maintain, transport, prepare, and store your equipment, we can offer transport, storage, and preparation of both Tyro Mini and Tyro Junior karts. Just turn up Saturday morning and your kart is ready to go.

Tyro Team Awning

We also offer awning space within our Tyro Kart Team race awning. Here you can find an enjoyable environment, free from the wind and rain with provided refreshments and seating.

The benefits of the Tyro Kart Team awning are as follows.

  • Both Tyro Mini and Tyro Junior karts are welcome
  • Driving tuition is available which includes racing lines, braking points, braking technique, clipping points, throttle application, taking full advantage of lap timers, and go-pro footage.
  • Race craft advice which includes rolling laps, starts, overtaking, defending, and slip streaming.
  • Advice on chassis set up which could include castor, camber, toeing, tyre pressures, weight distribution, ride height, and correct seat position.
  • Engine guidance - We work closely with Beddall Race Tuning for both Tyro Mini and Junior.
  • Carburettor settings, high and low jet settings, needle positions, float heights, main jets.
  • Sprocket selection for maximum lap time and overtaking opportunities.

During your time in the Tyro awning, you will learn how to prepare your kart for practice and race days, we will also demonstrate and explain how to prepare your kart for a race weekend. At some point, you may feel confident enough to manage the entire preparation and management of your kart yourself. Once you leave the Tyro awning you will not be alone, there will always be a Tyro team member to support you if required.

Tyro offers more for your family than just racing

Tyro is not just about the racing. New drivers and parents are introduced to likeminded people. You see drivers sharing their on-track experiences, getting involved in the fun and games off the circuit, whilst being serious about their racing on the circuit. What could be better once Saturday testing is over than to have a BBQ in the evening?

Another example of how the Tyro Community try to bring everyone together is the end of season activity. Our last race of the 2022 season is at the Fulbeck Kart Circuit. After Saturday testing, Mums and Dads compete in a parents’ kart race at the PFI Circuit next door to Fulbeck – this, of course, is hilarious for the kids to watch. Following the spectacle of the parents’ race, we all then enjoy a meal together at a local hotel.

New for 2023 will be an awards evening to celebrate the 2022 season!
