Taster Weekends

Ready to give karting a go?

A Tyro "taster weekend" in either a Mini Tyro or Junior Tyro allows you to try before you buy, and to experience a typical kart race weekend.

Our hire charges for the weekend are for Tyro Mini £395.00 and Tyro Junior £495.00 including all the equipment, coaching and assistance. The circuit fees for Saturday practice and Sunday race fee are £120.

A Tyro Taster Weekend

You will spend your taster weekend in the Tyro Kart Race Team awning. You will not be on your own, you will be allocated a team mechanic and a driver coach who will be with you throughout the weekend offering driving and technical assistance. The driver's potential mechanic, typically a parent, will also start to learn about the simple maintenance procedures that we follow during a race meeting.

Your weekend starts with you being at the circuit for 8:00am, following location maps given by us. We check out the seat and clothing fitting, making sure it’s all right for you, and then check you in with the circuit.

Once checked in, we walk the circuit with the driver so they get to know the circuit and racing lines that they should be taking.

To race in other kart classes, new drivers need to have a driving test known as an ARKS (Association of Racing Kart Schools) test. This is what permits them to race in these classes, however, this is not needed for Tyro. In Tyro, an experienced team member will be watching and coaching the driver throughout the practice and will indicate to the race officials that the driver is fast enough to race safely. 97% of Tyro drivers on taster weekends have developed enough skill on the practice day to race on Sunday.

Please note that any damage to a kart will be repaired by our staff, but the cost of parts used to repair the kart will be charged to you.

Saturday - Test Day

We arrange to meet about 8:00am. All details will be sent through to you about how you find the circuit and where you will find the Tyro Kart Team.

Saturday test day comprises of 6 practice sessions throughout the day dedicated to Tyro Mini or Junior. Each class racing over the weekend has their own individual test sessions.

This involves the Tyro drivers being on the circuit about once an hour. When the day comes to an end, we sign on for the race meeting and have the kart and the driver's equipment checked by a scrutineer.

Sunday - Race Day

On the Sunday, we will arrange to meet at about 8:30am and have everything ready for racing. There will be a "Driver's Briefing" when you will be told by the race officials how the meeting is to be run. After drivers’ briefing, 3-lap test sessions start the day just to make sure everything is running nicely and ready for racing.

You will compete in three heats where you will start from the back of the grid. For the final, the points you earned in the heats will decide your position on the grid. Around 5:30pm, the day will close with a prize giving for each of the race classes.

You all go home, tired out, but full of excitement. Hanging in the air is the question… is Tyro karting for you?
